I’m a retired nurse living in the beautiful piney woods of East Texas on Lake Palestine. I am a caregiver for my husband who sustained a severe traumatic brain injury in 2011. However I feel so truly blessed because his recovery was a miracle. I was told by all his doctors he would never recover. But they did not have the faith that I and other family members had. His name was on so many prayer lists in those first days, weeks and months.

God answered and he not only lived, but began to walk and talk again. Today, five and one-half years later, he even drives within about 5 miles of our home to the local stores when he wants. He suffers from severe short term memory loss so traveling further has found him getting lost easily.

Our days are mostly routine. Structure brings a sense of stability to him. We have ventured out to a couple of Texas Rangers baseball games at Globe Life Park in Arlington only to have him finding himself overwhelmed with sensory overload. He is better suited to a day out on our pontoon boat fishing and watching the games from home.

The things I most like to blog about are country living, faith, and patriotism. Occasionally I might write outside those subjects. I read as often as I can.

Reading and writing have always been a passion for me. During my husband’s recovery I kept a journal which filled five books. One day I might sit down and tell the entire story. It has been an amazing journey.
