How Will We Live in 2020?

A look back at 2019 should give us, as a society, some revelation which direction we are headed. We have always looked to our leaders to fulfill their promises to us according to our needs or our dreams of what the future should hold. After all they are the lawmakers and it is the law which gives us the straight line which measures our degree of stability or lawlessness.

When this great nation was formed, our founders gave us a Constitution. The first paragraph of the Declaration of Independence states the reason:
“When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.”

Their dream is most eloquently expressed by the group of revolutionaries who felt oppressed: “… and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them…” They are stating that laws written by the will of the people, which would be measured against Nature’s Laws and God’s Law who was the Creator, would be the straight line which would guide our Nation’s state of consciousness through all times revealing its state of stability or lawlessness.

What state are we in now? No matter which side we are on, be it liberal or conservative, we should be on the side of Nature’s Law and the Creator’s Law. Otherwise, we find we will be oppressed by the state of mind of those who sought and gained our representation in government. Greed can certainly sway the minds of those who gain power and cannot stand to let the will of the people take it away from them in an election.

This is an election year. We will go to our polling stations and vote on November 3rd. Shall we give power to those who have sought to undermine our will? Or shall we show them with our votes we are not naive enough to let them take away our votes a second time? It really is that simple.

Underlying motives drive us all to pick a particular candidate or party. We are Pro Choice or Pro Life; we are for open borders or we want to protect our borders from those who would seek to harm us; we are for the Second Amendment or we want the government to control guns; we are for socialism or capitalism; we are for health care controlled by the government or we want lower cost and better coverage. The list goes on.

The important thing to remember is everyone we vote for must take an oath of office. They must swear to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution. It is the straight line by which we measure our stability or our lawlessness. Should there be term limits on Congress? We have believed it is necessary for the Presidency. Perhaps term limits should seriously be considered for Congress as well. If there is one thing we learned in 2019, it is those in power who make the laws really do believe they are above the law. When they refuse to follow the Constitution we know we are in trouble.

  1. Prof. Patrick Loch Lumumba, Director Kenya Law School and a Worldwide recognized lawyer and orator once said ” Those who have power have no idea and those with ideas have no power”. So our own system , the same system we vote for eats its own people -we-.
    So it’s always just a struggle to gather victory where none actually exists.

  2. Watching the politics of our nation, I often feel lost and confused. How we could fall into a state as we are in is depressing. What is worse is that, yes, our vote counts, yet it makes no difference in the long run. Politicians will still continue to do what they want when they want. Maybe life has always been that way.

    1. Actually I believe it has always been that way. It’s all a big bargaining table. But I’m serious about term limits. The longer a member of Congress stays in, the more corrupt they become. Check out the bank accounts of those who have been in office 10, 20, 30 years. There are a lot of millionaires who weren’t rich before elected. Recently my Senator Ted Cruz introduced a bill for term limits, but I kind of doubt it will pass. One thing is certain, the race to get rid of Trump is because he promised to drain the Swamp and when that began all He’ll broke loose.
