My Morning Prayer

Dear Lord,

It has been heavy on my heart since I heard, yesterday, that New York has decided to make the murder of an infant, viable for life on the last day of its gestation,—legal!

What now, Lord? Surely your wrath is set upon those who would condone this atrocity. I know this in my  heart and from your Word. This is true.

What about believers like me? What about all of us who claim to be Christians—followers of Christ? Are we complicit? What do we do? This must not continue. This land is soiled with the blood of millions of  babies.

I cry out to you, Lord—as in Psalm 28:

To you, O Lord, I call, my rock, hear me.
As I lift up my hands in prayer to your holy place.
If you do not heed I shall become like those in the grave.

Hear the voice of my pleading as I call for help,
As I lift up my hands in prayer to your holy place.

Don not drag me away with the evil doers,
Who speak words of peace to their neighbors but with evil in their hearts.

Repay them as their actions deserve and the malice of their deeds.
Repay them for the work of their hands; give them their deserts.

For they ignore the deeds of the Lord and the work of his hands.
May he ruin and never rebuild them.

Blessed be the Lord for he has heard my cry, my appeal.
The Lord is my strength and my shield; in him my heart trusts.
I was helped, my heart rejoices and I praise him with my song.

The Lord is the strength for his people, a fortress where his anointed find help.
Save your people; bless Israel for your heritage.
Be their shepherd and carry them forever.
